WOOD / ENVIRONMENT / OBSERVATIONS

Read the wood.
Keep a field record.

Prepare storage, inspect changing conditions and track the same boards over time.

YOUR MATERIAL / YOUR CONDITIONS

Build your field plan.

Start with what you know. Keep unknowns visible.

US ZIP lookup uses Zippopotam.us and NWS. No exact address or contact details needed.

Open paths between courses help expose boards to the surrounding air. Sealed packaging and blocked sides can prevent that exchange.

Entered lengths and heights document the stack; the illustration does not calculate support capacity, spacing or a safe stack height.

Closed bundles restrict exposure of interior boards. Follow supplier instructions when removing packaging. Diagrams show relationships, not dimensional specifications.

03 / ENVIRONMENT

Know what changes.

Origin and destination conditions can pull moisture in different directions.

Concept storage study: four planks separated by aligned stickers above three visible supports

Concept storage study · support spacing and capacity require product-specific instructions.

One stack. Changing surroundings.

Use the storage setting from your plan, then inspect the relationship between air, surface and interior.

Storage is not recorded yet. Choose the closest condition, then verify it at the site.

These entries are shared with your field plan. They do not measure wood moisture or produce a drying forecast.

EXPLAIN THE RELATIONSHIP

Air is not the board.

A hypothetical teaching choice, separate from your readings. No equilibrium value is calculated from the fields.

SURROUNDING AIRInteriorSurfaceSurfaceExchange can occur in either directionColors explain relative states, not measured moisture.
Direction needs the wood’s condition as well as its environment.

Humidity alone does not establish direction. The current moisture state of the wood and air temperature also matter. Select a stated teaching assumption to explore the relationship.

Time belongs in your observations, not in an automatic countdown. The stages above are conceptual; their spacing does not represent equal durations.

OBSERVATION STATUS

Not enough information

— %

Add observations to see a trend. No sample readings are mixed into your plan.

0 dates · 0 positions matched across the latest three dates.

Installation review conditions

Recorded inputs only. A recorded condition is not independent verification.

  • Open: At least three observation dates recorded
  • Open: At least three positions matched on the latest three dates
  • Open: All recorded positions matched and changes within the user-selected tolerance
  • Open: Documented moisture range and its source recorded
  • Open: Latest readings within that documented range
  • Open: Meter and repeatable method recorded
  • Open: Recorded storage concerns addressed
  • Open: User review acknowledged
How the status is calculated

Trend stabilizing requires at least three identified positions with readings on each of the latest three dates, with every matched change within the tolerance you choose. These are transparent tool rules, not a validated universal sampling or acceptance standard. Uneven intervals, unrepresentative sampling or meter error can still mislead.

Site conditions, material condition, installation method and professional judgment still matter. No status certifies readiness.

The table keeps each board and measurement position separate. On a narrow screen, focus the table region and use the arrow keys to move across it.

MATERIAL / AT CLOSE RANGE

Air needs a path.

Stickers separate the courses so air can reach more than the outer boards. A gap is useful only when the surrounding path stays open.

LOOK BELOW THE SURFACE

What happens
inside the board?

Follow the moisture gradient, inspect measurement locations, and distinguish drying history from present condition.
